"Pierwsza Komunia Święta" explores the relationship between memory, family, and cultural identity through the Polish tradition of First Holy Communion. Inspired by a real family photograph of the artist’s sister’s communion with her parents, the painting reimagines the moment through the lens of personal memory.

A group of children dressed in white stand inside the church, surrounded by rows of mothers and fathers. Their expressions reveal the quiet emotions of the occasion — boredom , pride, and the ordinary reality of family life. The figures and architecture are decorated with Polish folk patterns and flowers inspired by the visual language of the communist era, while daisies on the children’s gowns symbolise purity and innocence.

The work reflects on how rituals preserve heritage, memory, and belonging across generations.
